This is a “critical election”, says Judy Sgro

Toronto, April 6.– Liberal candidate Judy Sgro launched her political campaign in Humber River-Black Creek. Among those in attendance were Minister of National Defence, Bill Blair, and the Liberal candidate for Eglinton-Lawrence, Vince Gasparro.
After being a Member of Parliament for the Humber River-Black Creek riding for more that 20 years, Judy Sgro is looking to be re-elected because “this is a critical election” amid Trump’s tariff threat.
Surrounded by Liberal supporters and members of local organizations in North Toronto, Sgro addressed the threats Canada is receiving from the USA president.
“My great grandparents came to Canada because they thought it was the land of honesty and respect and all of the right reasons like you did. It is all being threatened and we don’t say that lightly. It makes me very sad to have to think that I even have to say those words, but that is the reality.”
She focused her critics on the USA president.
“Everything everybody has here is at risk with President Trump over there.”
Sgro was cheered for community leaders and former Liberal candidates.
She clarified that the Canadian criticism is not to the American people, it’s to “a crazy president that’s over there that for whatever reason thinks that he can take over other countries.”

The Liberal candidate emphasized to the attendees that the most important thing is to go out and vote on April 28th or on the days of early voting (April 18, 19, 20 and 21).
“Well, we’re not going to let that happen (to annex Canada to the US), but that is one of the reasons why this election is so critically important that everyone who has the right to vote gets out and exercises that right.”
Organizer highlighted that the Humber River-Black Creek. Among riding is the second riding with the biggest Latin American population in Canada.
In an interview with The Essential channel, Sgro recognised the importance of the Latino vote in this riding and encouraged them to vote.
“It’s a critical, important election, more important than in any election in the past. This is about protecting our country. This is about building our country for the future of our children and our grandchildren. But being able to protect them is critically important.
“Everybody that can cast a vote needs to get out and vote. This is a time where we can send a message to President Trump that Canada is solidly united, determined. We’re going to protect our sovereignty and we’re going to build our country together,” Sgro said.
The Minister of National Defence, Bill Blair, encourage people in this riding to vote for Judy Sgro.
“I known Judy for over 25 years. She used to be on my police services board. She was always a great friend and a great ally,” he said.
Bill Blair highlighted that Judy Sgro is “a strong advocate for all of the people of Black Creek.”
The Minister of National Defence said that the April 28th General Election is “the most consequential election of our lifetime (because) the threat from President Trump and his tariffs is threatening the very sovereignty of our nation.”
“Together, with people like Judy Sgro, we can build Canada strong.”
In a short interview with The Essentia channel, Blair talks about how benefit was for Liberals the switch Trudeau-Carney.
“I think the transition of Mark Carney was good for Canada. Mark Carney has a remarkable history of service to this country and to other countries. He’s a remarkably capable man.
“He’s exactly what Canada needs right now to help build our economy, to protect our workers, to defend our country against the threat that Trump represents.”
Nadia Guerrera, former Liberal candidate, came to support Judy Sgro.
“She is like an institution in federal politics here in Toronto. She has been a stalwart supporter of diverse communities, newcomers to Canada for many, many years.”
She recalled that she grew up with her grandparents in this area, Hummer River- Black Creek, and “they were always supporters of Judy Sgro.”
Guerrera defined Judy Sgro as “a mentor and a fighter who cares about public service.”
“She’s somebody who taught me what it looks like to serve people and fight with people and for people. I know in this riding we have a lot of Latin American population living here. I hope every Latinos vote for her because we need to fight to Canada.”
